Easy Bombay “Street Food”Naan Sandwich


Love of great-tasting food is something people of every city, ethnicity and gender share!

In the bustling streets of Mumbai and Bombay, savvy street vendors elevate the sandwich to an art form. There are as many street food kiosks as there are vendors and sandwiches. While it can take hours to prepare each ingredient from scratch, Indianlife makes it easy with fresh-ground spices, chutneys and more!

These cities are known for distinctive street foods that are a fresh, inexpensive alternative to pricey restaurants. Lanes with a cluster of street food vendors are known locally as Khau Galli which means “Food Alley” in Marathi.

Today these fresh, informal street foods are growing in popularity. Restaurants worldwide continue to include Mumbai-inspired “street foods” into their menus.

Bombay Vegan Street Sandwich

Serves 2 to 4 people

Ingredients:

4 Indianlife Naan flatbread (experiment with your favorite flavor)

1 Red Onion, sliced thin (medium size)

1/2 Cup Indianlife Chutney (choose any flavor)

2 Large potatoes (Peeled, boiled and sliced thin)

1 Cucumber (small to medium size)

2 Fresh Tomatoes, sliced thin

Ketchup to taste

4 Tablespoons softened butter (salted or unsalted)

One or two cloves grated garlic (optional)

Salt and Pepper to taste

Preparation:

Gently spread butter over all pieces of naan. Heat in oven on a baking sheet, or on the grill for 3-5 minutes until warm. Remove naan from heat and generously spread green chutney over two naan, and ketchup and the grated garlic (if used) over the other two. Now add your veggies – sliced potatoes first, then sliced tomatoes, onions and cucumbers. Season to taste by sprinkling with Garam Masala, salt and pepper. Cover the two assembled pieces of naan and veggies with the other two piece of naan spread with the chutney.

Beware: These are so good you may want to open your own street kiosk!
